Third Phase of Ancient Chinese Gold Craftsmanship Research Project Advances Cultural Education

Since 2014, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group has collaborated with the Art Museum of The Chinese University of Hong Kong on the “Ancient Chinese Gold Craftsmanship” research project, a multidisciplinary initiative dedicated to exploring and preserving on traditional goldsmithing techniques.

Now in its third phase, the Group has launched the "Student Goldsmith STEAM Maker" Programme, transforming research insights into inspiring educational experiences for primary school students. The programme integrates Chinese language, science, and visual arts through custom-designed learning kits, supported by mini exhibitions, little docent training, and hands-on workshops to create a holistic learning journey.

To ensure effective knowledge transfer, a “train-the-trainer” model was adopted, with our craftsmen training museum professionals, who in turn guided 74 primary school teachers and university student ambassadors—promoting Chinese heritage and craftsmanship through a structured educational framework.

In June 2025, the programme was piloted in two Hong Kong primary schools, engaging 248 pupils in a series of lessons including simplified gold chain braiding in art classes, offering hands-on appreciation of the skill and artistry of traditional goldsmiths. In July, the project features a mini exhibition hosted at participating primary schools, where trained primary student docents led guided tours for visiting kindergarten pupils, further promoting cultural education across age groups.

This initiative reflects the Group’s commitment to integrating research, education, and cultural engagement to nurture the next generation’s understanding and appreciation of traditional craftsmanship.
