Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group was the first to use the trading platform of Macau • China Diamond and Gem Exchange (“MDGE”) to import rough diamonds. MDGE’s first batch of rough diamonds certified under the Kimberley Process completed customs clearance on 28 November, which marked a new milestone of Macau’s diamond trade sector. This batch of rough diamonds from Russia weighing over 600 carats worth around US$280,000.
“Leveraging the connection between Macau and the Portuguese-speaking world, MDGE provides jewellers a more convenient procurement channel of diamonds and facilitates the enhancement of business chain in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,” said Mr. Kent Wong, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Managing Director. “The platform makes it convenient for the Group to deliver rough diamonds from Macau to our in-house and Mainland China’s largest and most advanced diamond cutting and polishing factory located in Shunde for processing. It also helps lower our logistics costs and increase our efficiency.”
Chow Tai Fook is one of the eight companies obtained an operating license for diamond exploring activities issued by the Macao Economic Bureau.
