Chinese Gold Craftsmanship Heritage Education Programme
Golden Whispers: A Conversation Between Traditional Craftsmanship and Contemporary Design
In 2024, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group collaborated with the Hong Kong Palace Museum to launch the five-year “Chinese Gold Craftsmanship Heritage Education Programme”. In its first year, the programme introduced a launching ceremony, immersive storytelling workshops and distributed educational kits, providing gold- themed learning experiences to over 5,000 young children.
On 7 December 2025,”Golden Whispers: A Conversation Between Traditional Craftsmanship and Contemporary Design”, the inaugural masterclass of the programme, was successfully held. The event attracted participants from the education and jewellery sectors, CTF Club members, staff and public to explore the limitless potential of craftsmanship and innovation.
During the masterclass, Dr Tong Yu, Research Associate at the Art Museum, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, delivered an in-depth analysis of the history, techniques, and stylistic evolution of ancient Chinese gold artefacts. He also reviewed nearly a decade of collaborative research with Chow Tai Fook Jewellery, showcasing the profound cultural and artisanal heritage. Following this, our General Manager of Creative & Design, Mr Max Lam Hung-Shing, shared insights on integrating traditional gold craftsmanship into contemporary design. He highlighted cross-disciplinary collaborations with The Palace Museum, Chiikawa, Black Myth, and fashion brand CLOT, demonstrating how gold artistry can be revitalised for younger generations. He also shared the creative inspiration and story behind the medals for the 15th National Games, underscoring the Group’s commitment to preserving and celebrating the beauty of Chinese cultural heritage.
The event concluded with a thought-provoking dialogue between Dr Hou Yi-Li , Curator of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, and the two speakers. This discussion explored how traditional craftsmanship can be sustained and transformed within modern design, sparking new creative possibilities and injecting fresh momentum into cultural heritage and innovation.
In the years ahead, the programme will continue to host additional masterclasses, showcasing the outstanding artistic and technical excellence of Chinese goldsmithing, preserving China’s rich cultural heritage.
